WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES OF TMT BARS?

The Thermo-Mechanically Treated (TMT) reinforcement bars have become the foundation of the modern construction industry and are known to be more powerful, ductile, and resistant to corrosion than their predecessors, such as the Twisted Ordinary Reinforcement (TOR) steel.

They have their own manufacturing process, which is preceded by rapid quenching of the hot-rolled by water that provides them with a strong martensitic external layer and a soft ferrite-pearlite core, producing an optimal set of properties.

Nevertheless, TMT bars, just like any other engineered material, come with disadvantages. Since it is prone to certain harmful conditions, as well as difficulties in quality control and financial conditions, one should be aware of these drawbacks as an engineer, architect, and builder should.
